Resources and draft legislation for sealing criminal records from the Crime Commission

The Crime Commission met October 22 and heard numerous presentations from stakeholders on the status of sealing criminal records. Some of the resources available are:

• The Virginia State Bar is providing FREE 30-minute consultations with an attorney to help complete the forms and determine eligibility. Call (800) 552-7977. to learn more 
• The Indigent Defense Commission hired Lauren Young as their Expungement and Sealing Resource Attorney. Individuals can call or email her with questions at lyoung@vadefenders.org or call (804) 662-7249 ext. 129. She has also prepared a flow chart and a how to guide on how to fill out the petition form (plus many other great resources!) which is posted on the IDC website. • The Commission developed a sealing overview presentation for the public, which is available here >.
