Department of Fire Programs issues memo regarding 42-hour work week for paid firefighters

Friday, June 12, 2026/Categories: News Board

The Virginia Department of Fire Programs was tasked by legislation (HB1333) to encourage fire departments with paid firefighters to implement a 42-hour work week.

This is a locality decision that must consider a myriad of items.

To aid in this decision, the Department encourages local administrators and fire chiefs to review a memo from Executive Director L. Brad Creasy.

The memo can be viewed/downloaded here >.
