Youth Counselor Assistant: Teens GIVE/CAYIP

Job Description:

The hiring amount will be between $16.48 and $20.00 an hour. This is a part-time temporary (variable/limited-hour) position with no benefits.

This Youth Counselor Assistant position provides direct care and support for youth enrolled in the Community Attention Youth Internship Program (CAYIP) and the Teens GIVE Service Learning Program. In Teens GIVE, the primary function involves supervising, organizing, and facilitating community service and recreational activities for groups of teens. In CAYIP, the primary function involves case management, job coaching and work place readiness counseling. Other responsibilities may include group facilitation, transportation, and administrative projects as needed to support the program; does related work as required. Primarily and most frequently the work done here is under direct supervision.

Minimum Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED equivalency required;
General knowledge of or experience with working with youth and/or previous life and work experience which reflects the ability to provide supervision and support to youth and their families;
Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia or qualified and able to obtain a valid VA driver’s license prior to beginning the position. Proof of insurance. (To view our driving eligibility requirements, visit https://www.charlottesville.gov/faq.aspx?qid=166)

Preferred Qualifications:
Additional college coursework in behavioral sciences or human services preferred.
Prior work with underserved populations preferred.
