Water Plant Operator Trainee

Job Description:

The Community Development Department is seeking a technically proficient and customer service oriented individual to perform routine to complex inspections of residential and commercial building construction and to review construction plans for compliance with applicable building, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and related codes and ordinances. The position is located within the Department’s Planning and Development team which is the City’s one stop shop for land and building development review and applications. The Department is seeking a career minded individual who likes to learn and cross train.

This starting rate for this position is $70,324.80 – $96,699.20, DOQ.
Essential Job Functions
Typical duties include:

Reviews architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, plumbing and site construction plans for conformance with applicable codes and policies.
Conducts field inspections for code compliance of residential and/or commercial structures including architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, gas, plumbing and other items.
Interprets codes and aids contractors, engineers, architects, and the public to resolve outstanding plan review and inspection issues to process and approve applications over-the-counter for minor construction projects.

Minimum Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED supplemented by a Vocational/Technical degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Plumbing Systems, Construction, or related field; at least five (5) years of experience in both commercial and residential inspections is required; or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Special Requirements
Must have either a Combination Residential Inspector Certification or Combination Commercial Inspection Certification and obtain and maintain the following certifications within eighteen (18) months of employment: Combination Residential Inspector, Combination Commercial Inspector, and Combination Building Plans Examiner; may be required to possess additional certification(s) as deemed necessary by the City. Valid State Driver’s License required. Language stipend available for Bilingual (English/Spanish) language skills.
