Wastewater Treatment Operator in Charge (Trainee)

Job Description:

POSITION AVAILABLE: WASTEWATER OPERATOR IN CHARGE (TRAINEE)
The County of Amelia is accepting applications for a full-time salaried position of Wastewater Operator in Charge – Trainee. Salary range: $38,752.90 – $46,503.48 based on experience.

Performs work overseeing the daily operations of the Wastewater Treatment Plant and collection system, ensuring operations are in compliance with Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) requirements, training employees on processes and procedures, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the supervision of the Public Works Director. Position exercises supervision over the Wastewater Operator.

Essential Functions
Supervises the operations of the Wastewater Treatment Plant, pump stations, collection systems, and related staff; trains employees on processes, procedures, and equipment operation; analyzes data and adjust operations as needed. Assists with the daily maintenance and repairs of the plant; adjust chemical levels. Schedules maintenance for equipment and machinery; monitors and maintains inventory; order supplies as needed. Prepares and delivers required reports. Performs water and wastewater readings; analyzes samples to ensure proper operation.

Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or GED and three to five years of experience assisting with wastewater plant, pump station, and collection system maintenance and operation, or equivalent combination of education and experience. A Valid driver’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Special Qualifications
 A Class III Wastewater license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia
 Obtain Hazardous Materials, CPR and First Aid, Blood borne certification within one year of hire.
 Obtain Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Work Zone Safety Certification within one year of hire.
 Must be able to meet and maintain all required trainings and certifications for the position.
