Are you the multi-tasker and detail whiz who keeps it all together? You know the deadlines and schedules, spreadsheets and web widgets, and who to call for help with any problem? Browsing the VML site means you have some knowledge of local government already. The Town of Scottsville needs you. The Town has all the responsibilities of bigger governments –grants, budgets, permits, public hearings, and festivals –but only one full-time clerk position to help the town council and town administrator keep track of it all. This is a job that offers great opportunity to make a difference in a community that’s making progress!
Who we are: a historic, vibrant town of 600 on the James River. We have six other employees, and we serve the town with police, parks, economic development, and tourism services. The office is a sunny historic theater downtown. We love small-town community, things like knowing the names of our neighbors and their dogs when we stroll out to lunch. This Clerk job is one where you can enjoy autonomy in your day, achieve mastery of the skills, and find purpose in your efforts.
Preferred qualifications: relevant college coursework, experience in similar small office teams, experience in government or in business or nonprofits connected to local government, experience supporting governing boards and committees. Demonstrated skills in QuickBooks would be great, but we might consider alternatives for the accounting part of this job. Flexibility around the bookkeeping role accounts for most of the salary range below.
Perks: Salary range $31,000 to $41,000 depending on qualifications. VRS state pension. Full medical benefits with generous plan structure. Holidays, sick, and vacation leave. Some flexibility in scheduling with limited telework options.
