Description
Under general supervision of the Manager, Instrumentation and Systems Control, performs specialized engineering work associated with the maintenance of computerized process control, data acquisition and/or data transmission for water plant production and distribution systems.
Examples of Duties
Performs specialized engineering work associated with the maintenance of computerized process control, data acquisition and/or data transmission of water plant production and distribution systems by:
Evaluating various plant processes and operations for control scheme and network optimization and troubleshooting process control and network malfunctions.
Maintaining existing control and network strategies and recommending modifications to manager.
Maintaining the control and historical databases.
Maintaining system hardware, including both preventive maintenance and emergency repair.
Assisting in administering system security tasks.
Maintaining network infrastructures including routing, switching, encryption, wireless, network management and network security.
Maintaining accurate system documentation.
Training and instructing, all DCS and SCADA users.
Coordinates technical work of the Instrumentation Technicians associated with process control and data acquisition in:
Performing periodic system backups.
Conducting essential data archive functions.
Maintaining and repairing associated field instrumentation.
Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Typical Qualifications
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Engineering and five years of experience in engineering, process control and/or networking; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
E.I.T. Certification preferred.
Good knowledge of communication systems, using radio, phone and fiber optics, and distributed control systems.
Knowledge of the theory and practice of the design, processes and operation of public water supply facilities.
Good knowledge of process instrumentation, process control techniques, field sensors and controllers, digital control hardware including Programmable Logic Controllers, Relay Ladder Logic and control software and/or networking hardware/software.
Experience with computer hardware and software
Ability to coordinate the work of others.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Must be willing to report for after-hour eme
