STORMWATER MANAGEMENT (VSMP) ENGINEER II

Loudoun County, Virginia, is recognized as one of the fastest growing counties in the United States. The County’s VA Stormwater Management (SWM) Program (VSMP) in the Department of Building and Development serves the community by ensuring that stormwater runoff is managed in compliance with State and County Code. Join this Team of professionals who are committed to Community, Teamwork and Innovation in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

As an integral part of the day-to-day operations of the VSMP, the successful candidate will apply engineering practices and SWM regulations in conducting SWM plan review, and process VSMP permit applications. Field work may periodically be necessary as well, along with other related duties as assigned. Attention to detail, accurate record keeping and the ability to learn Best Management Practice (BMP) design, hydrology and hydraulics, general drainage concepts, and the County’s local SWM program and state requirements will be essential in carrying out these duties.

The successful candidate will be well organized and exhibit a high level of self-motivation, interpersonal skills and integrity, and will work well within a collaborative team environment. They will be able to communicate ideas clearly, concisely and effectively, both orally and in writing, as well as establish and maintain effective relationships with fellow employees, County officials, contractors and the general public.

The successful candidate will also excel in areas such as communication, continuous learning, customer-focused service, dependability, flexibility, interpersonal skills, leadership, planning and organization, reasoning and problem solving, and teamwork.

Job Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from a four-year college or university accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technologies; two (2) years of stormwater management design/review experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements:

Must have or obtain SWM Plan Reviewer certification through the Commonwealth of Virginia within one year of employment. The position may be required to work beyond normal work day as required to attend Board of Supervisors, Planning Commi
