Site Inspector

Job Description:

The Site Inspector is responsible for reviewing and inspecting site and development plans as well as the daily progress of multiple construction projects to ensure compliance with local, state and federal building codes and standards.
Essential Job Functions
Inspects the daily progress of multiple construction and utility projects; ensures conformance with approved plans, and local, state and federal laws, codes, standards, and specifications; records daily activities; performs duties associated with site inspections; determines if active construction sites meet or exceed the requirements of the Virginia Work area protection standards; creates technical punch lists to ensure contractors and utility providers are complying with standards and specifications; issues corrective actions and code violations as needed to obtain compliance; maintains all related documentation.

Inspects all aspects of site development related to erosion and sediment control and construction of public infrastructure including, but not limited to, curbs and gutters; sidewalks; sub-base and base; asphalt; storm sewers and paved ditches; slope and grade of ground around projects as contractors build; proper grade and alignment of sewer and waterline installations; proper placement of cradle and encasement for pipe; and use of proper materials.

Reviews civil engineered site and subdivision plans and revisions to determine conformance with local, state and federal standards, specifications, and regulations; determines if the plan is acceptable for approval.

Minimum Required Qualifications
Associate’s degree in Construction Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
Three (3) years of experience in construction engineering, construction management, or a closely related field

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Special Requirements
Must obtain and maintain the following certifications from the appropriate authority: VA DEQ Erosion and Sediment Control Plan Reviewer and Inspector, VA DEQ Stormwater Inspector, Soils and Aggregate, Asphalt Field, American Concrete Institute, and NET Nuclear Density; selected candidates and/or incumbents may be required to obtain additional certification(s) as deemed necessary by the City.

Must possess and maintain a valid Virginia driver’s license.
