Senior Engineer (Transportation/Stormwater)

The ideal candidate would provide project and construction management for a wide variety of capital improvement projects such as transportation (e.g. new roads, road widening, pedestrian and bike ways); and sanitary, stormwater, and water conveyance/distribution systems and related facilities. He/she will also provide site review for private projects and assist with technical design on smaller projects.
The ideal candidate would have design, project management, plan review and construction/contract management experience. The successful candidate will have experience in northern Virginia coupled with an understanding of local and state regulations and how to interpret them.
Serves as a project and/or construction manager for multi-discipline projects, designed by in-house staff or consultants, of ranging complexity, type and scope including transportation (e.g. new roads, road widening, pedestrian, ped/traffic signals and bike ways); sanitary, stormwater, and water conveyance/distribution systems and related facilities; and other city projects and ensures delivery within defined objectives, priorities, budgets, and deadlines. Project Management experience in managing design and construction meetings and contracts; develops project scopes, cost estimates, biddable plans and specifications, and schedules for City Projects. Experienced in handling challenging issues such as utility conflict resolution and relocations.
Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in Engineering and, five years of progressively responsible related experience; or, any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Must possess and maintain a valid Virginia driver’s license and a license as a Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Candidate will also need to maintain the following certifications: “Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Combined Administrator and “Virginia Stormwater Management Combined Administrator”.
