Senior Electrician
Job Description:
Performs skilled electrical work for maintaining, repairing and ensuring the working condition of electrical systems in city buildings and facilities; installs circuits for power, lighting and equipment using various wiring methods to include rigid metal conduits and armored cables; troubleshoots and repairs main and branch circuit breakers; installs and disconnects wiring devices such as switches, convenience receptacles and dedicated receptacles; and utilizes lock- out/tag-out procedures; observes and adheres to industry safety precautions
Troubleshoots and repairs electrical lighting and distribution, and safety components; installs electrical wiring systems in new and renovated structures; performs preventative maintenance and repairs to main switchboards and panel boards; troubleshoots most complex electrical problems; leads the work of others in the repair and installation of electrical systems; provides instruction and technical guidance and assists with resolving problems; and trains and provides guidance, direction and instruction in electrical systems; inspects work performed and assists with recruiting and selection activities.
Estimates electrical needs for new construction, remodeling and repair work; reads and interprets blueprints; determines lay out of electrical systems and prepares diagrams and drawings of electrical system; diagnoses and troubleshoots live electrical circuits with or without blue prints or schematics; diagnoses problems and repairs, and replaces failed lighting systems as well as the controls and ballast on lighting equipment; runs new circuits for receptacles, wiring and splicing in strings of lighting, testing and retesting lighting for on/off of all facilities.
Receives and completes work orders; determines work to be performed; obtains materials, equipment and supplies, and plans sequence of work; prepares work site by clearing and setting up needed protective devices; evaluates equipment performance and parts durability, and reports findings for consideration in procurement of new equipment; prepares temporary electrical systems for special events.
Performs administrative work to include maintaining work order completion records, and inventory of spare parts; initiates procurement of replacement supplies and equipment; makes cost and material estimates; collects data for preventative maintenance system.
