SCHOOL AGE PROGRAM FACILITATOR – YOUTH PROGRAMS

Job Description:

Do you have a passion for working with children and getting paid to play? This may be the perfect opportunity for you! As a School Age Program Facilitator in the Parks and Recreation department, it is your responsibility to plan, develop and conduct various recreational activities for children in the School Age program. The activities must be able to serve anywhere from 20-125 children.

We want to ensure that all of our programs provide a safe and fun environment for all of the children. Day to day, you will be interacting with a variety of age groups, and a great group of coworkers within the department! This position is also responsible for monitoring the facility and activities to ensure safety, structure, and a clean environment for staff, children, and parents. There is a small amount of administrative work required with this position. This is a fast-paced position with many moving parts but will provide job satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment when providing a fun learning environment for the youth in our community! This position is part-time, working an average of 10-30 hours per week. The center is open Monday-Friday from 6:00 am-6:30 pm. What will I learn on the job? In the position as a School Age Program Facilitator, you will continue to learn as you progress in your position. You will continue to gain knowledge about youth programs, including ways to create developmental and physical activities for children of different ages.

You will also have the opportunity to interact with other employees in different positions and departments, allowing you to gain knowledge of the City and other processes! What are the qualifications for this position? This position requires applicants to be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma and 6-9 months of related programmatic experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that meets the standards established by Virginia Code section 22VAC40- 185-190. There is room for advancement and developmental opportunities within the Parks & Recreation department! This position will work closely with others within the department and could have the opportunity to shadow or cross train. There may also be an opportunity for a full-time position in the future!
