Radio System Technician
Alleghany County, VA and the City of Covington, VA are seeking to fill the position of Radio System Technician for oversight of the new P25, Trunked, Simulcast, UHF Emergency LMR System. This is a full-time, salaried, County position, jointly funded and jointly overseen with the City of Covington. The Radio System Technician will perform administrative and technical work as it relates to the radio system and related equipment. This will include, but is not limited to, overall supervision of the system, equipment and database design, installations, maintenance, programming, and upgrades. Applicants must have a thorough knowledge of Federal and State regulations governing LMR systems; a comprehensive knowledge in the use of computers and modern radio communications equipment (P25 Systems); and the ability to prepare operational plans, budgets, and relevant correspondence. Preferred experience with working in the public safety field (E-911 Dispatch, Emergency Management, Police, Fire, and/or EMS). Any combination of education and work experience equivalent to graduation from high school and five years of work experience in a public safety or emergency communications setting.
