Police Officer

Job Description:

The Colonial Beach Police Department is now accepting applications for the position of Police Officer, full time. Current Virginia Law Enforcement Certification and experience is preferred but non-certified candidates are also highly encouraged to apply. The Town of Colonial Beach sits on the southern bank of the Potomac River and is a small community in Virginia’s picturesque Northern Neck. The town has a year-round population of approximately 3,700 but doubles and triples during the summer months, especially on holiday weekends and during festival weekends which take place yearly, from May to October. The Town of Colonial Beach offers an excellent benefits package for full time employees, including:

Candidates must successfully complete a thorough background investigation, including a pre-employment medical exam. Candidates may be subject to a physical agility test. Candidates must meet the minimum employment criteria set forth in Virginia Code §15.2-1705 and be committed to the highest level of professionalism, integrity and accountability.
The officers at the Colonial Beach Police Department are responsible for enforcing criminal and traffic laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia and the ordinances of the Town of Colonial Beach. The Colonial Beach Police Department allows officers the opportunity to experience a variety of roles within police work and allows officers exposure to traffic enforcement, criminal investigations, crime scene/forensics, special events, inter-agency cooperation and specialized training. In addition, officers perform numerous accident investigations annually and work bike patrol during peak summer months, festivals and special events.
