Plans Examiner I
The primary responsibility of this position is to review and certify a variety of residential building and construction plans and documents for compliance with adopted State building codes and standards. This position is also the primary point of contact for customers at the Plan Review front counter. The Plans Examiner I receives supervision and guidance from the Plans Examiner II and III.
This position requires strong customer service and communication skills, and the ability to establish effective working relationships with co-workers, the general public, and industry professionals.
The capability to interpret complex codes and information, and present that information to others in an easy-to-understand manner with clear recommendations, is an integral aspect of this position. The majority of work is performed independently within a team environment, and requires managing multiple tasks and projects in an organized and highly efficient manner. Reviews are performed both electronically and on paper, while utilizing online permitting and document review applications.
ICC or State certification as a Residential Plans Examiner is preferred.
Prior experience reviewing construction plans for compliance with applicable codes and regulations is also preferred.
