Planning Director
Job Description:
Job Summary
The Planning Director is responsible for directing and overseeing all planning and zoning functions within the Town of Christiansburg, including but not limited to, current and long-range planning, zoning, code enforcement activities, special projects, and administrative functions. Reports to the Town Manager or Assistant Town Manager as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education and experience
• Advanced degree in urban planning, public administration or closely related field, or equivalent education, training, and experience
• Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible planning experience
• Prior supervisory experience, preferably in planning, zoning, permitting or code enforcement
Licenses and Certification
• Valid Virginia driver’s license with the ability to meet/maintain Town insurability requirements
• Virginia Association of Zoning Officials (VAZO), Certified Zoning Administrator (CZA) and FEMA Certified Floodplain Manager certifications required within 6 months of employment
• American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification preferred
