Under general supervision, performs professional planning and land development review work for the County’s Planning and Zoning Department. Reviews rezoning, special use, subdivision and other development proposals to ensure compliance with County codes and the Comprehensive Plan. Assists in updates to the Comprehensive Plan and its implementation. Serves as a team member and/or team leader in self-directed work teams engaged in planning projects and or plan reviews. Reviews and analyzes land development applications; interprets and applies relevant ordinances, standards, codes, plans and policies; and presents findings and recommendations to the Planning Commission and the Board of Supervisors. Reports to the Deputy Director of Planning and Zoning.
Minimum Training & Experience
Master’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning, or a closely related field, and a minimum of one (1) year of site plan review, land use planning analysis and review, comprehensive planning analysis and review, GIS, or related work experience; or a Bachelor’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning, or related field, and a minimum of two (2) years of site plan review, land use planning analysis and review , comprehensive planning analysis and review, GIS, or related work experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Must possess a valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver’s license.
A member of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) preferred.
