Planner

Job Description:

Planner – Town of Christiansburg

Reporting to the Planning Director, the Planner is responsible for planning, zoning, code enforcement and other development activities for the Town of Christiansburg. Depending on qualifications and experience, the successful candidate may be hired as either a Planner I or a Planner II.

Job duties may include: enforcing the Town’s nuisance and zoning ordinances; administering the sign ordinance; performing field inspections of rezoning and subdivision sites; providing highly responsive customer service; assisting in the review and update of the Town’s Comprehensive Plan and other long-range planning items; researching zoning, subdivisions, and other land use and process related topics when requested; analyzing zoning codes and development standards; preparing staff reports and resolutions for consideration for Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, or other governing body; administering the HUD Community Development Block Grant program; and acting as primary staff support to the Bikeway Walkway Committee.

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in planning, community development or closely related field, or equivalent education, training and experience; minimum of three years of experience in planning, design, zoning, or code enforcement for Planner II designation; Valid driver’s license with the ability to meet and maintain Town insurability requirements; must obtain and maintain Zoning Official certification; Certified Planner certification required for Planner II with the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification preferred.
