Permit Technician I/II

Job Description:

The City of Manassas Community Development Department is seeking an energetic, customer service-oriented individual to review and process permit and planning applications, inspection requests, assist customers, and provide clerical support for the Department’s Planning and Development team which is the City’s one stop shop for land and building development review and applications. The Department is seeking an individual who likes to learn and can thrive in a team first environment. This position is one of two staff members responsible serving as the first point of contact at the Planning and Development customer service counter.

The advertised hiring range for this position is: $44,969.60 – $64,272.00, DOQ.

A language stipend is available for Bilingual (English/Spanish) language skills.

*This position will be filled as either Permit Technician I or II based on the qualifications of applicant pool.

Typical duties include:

Providing general customer service and answering questions about the City’s permitting process and requirements;
Intaking, routing, and issuance of permits;
Scheduling required permit inspections;
Use of the City’s EnerGov permitting systems to input, track, and research permits, plans, and inspections; and
Maintaining permit and plan files.
Minimum Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required; supplemented by training or experience in general office work, customer service, the construction industry, or related field. Working knowledge of EnerGov and Spanish language skills a plus.

Special Requirements
The incumbent must obtain and maintain certification as a Permit Technician within 18 months of employment and may be required to possess additional certification(s) as deemed necessary by the City.

The incumbent must possess and maintain a valid Virginia driver’s license.
