Parks Supervisor – Maintenance
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB: Under general supervision, performs a wide variety of tasks in the day-to-day operation, maintenance and patrol of the County Parks and related facilities. Work involves supervising staff, assessing maintenance needs for park equipment, buildings and grounds and scheduling necessary work to ensure parks are safe and properly maintained. Employee observes park usages and makes recommendations for improvements and necessary changes. Employee must exercise initiative and independent judgment and exercise tact and courtesy in frequent contact with park patrons and the general public. Reports to the Parks Superintendent.
JOB LOCATION AND CONDITIONS:
Duties are performed at assigned County locations outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Broad knowledge of turf grasses, care and maintenance needs.
Broad knowledge of standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment employed in park operations and maintenance.
Broad knowledge of flora and fauna; working knowledge of local, state and federal laws and regulations regarding wildlife.
Knowledge of principles of supervision and organization.
Intermediate computer skills; ability to enter data in an automated information system.
Ability to plan, assign and oversee the work of others, and to instruct them in proper work procedures
Ability to speak before groups of people with poise, voice control and confidence.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or GED supplemented by college course work in a related field.
Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in park operations and maintenance, and two years of supervisory experience or any equivalent
combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a valid driver’s license; possess and maintain a driving record that meets established Gloucester County Driving Standards.
Possession of, and ability to maintain, CPR, AED, and First Aid certification.
Pass a post-offer, pre-employment physical examination; employee may be subject to subsequent physical examinations to ensure he/she
meets job-related physical requirements.
