PARK MAINTENANCE SPECIALIST – FACILITY MAINTENANCE
GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES- Under general supervision, this position performs a variety of skilled maintenance, construction, and repair work throughout the City’s parks and athletic fields. Position may be in the Park Maintenance or Athletic Field Maintenance Division. Reports to a Crew Supervisor B.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS- Performs inspections, repairs and maintenance on park shelters, equipment, piers, docks, decks, bridges, fences, buildings and related amenities to include carpentry, concrete or cement work, metal fabrication and welding, rigging and painting. Performs inspections, repairs and maintenance on park and school playgrounds to include parts replacement, painting, resurfacing, and reconstruction. Prepares and maintains athletic fields and related items for each season. Prepares inspects all types of athletic fields and equipment for seasonal use, repairs bleachers, goals, fencing, trash barrels, tennis nets, benches and other equipment.
Performs minor irrigation repair work and applies pesticides for vegetation control at various athletic sites. Assists with field maintenance for weekend tournaments, and maintains landscaped areas to include mulching, pruning, edging, weed control, fertilization and general upkeep. Ensures the safety of City equipment, private property, and others by following proper safety procedures during the operation of a variety of equipment such as mowing equipment, skid steer loader, front-end loader, tractors, irrigation equipment, etc.; performs routine checks and preventive maintenance on equipment; identifies and reports equipment malfunctions; cleans equipment as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE • Building Maintenance – Knowledge of the common terminology, tools and practices of the carpentry, cement finishing, and welding trades. General knowledge of the proper use and maintenance of tools and equipment used. • Athletic Field Maintenance – Knowledge of common tools, practices, and work related to detailed athletic field preparation, inspection, maintenance, and repair. • Pesticide Handling – Knowledge of appropriate laws and regulations regarding the proper handling, application, disposal, and safe use of pesticides and pesticide application equipment. • Safety – Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions, and safety regulations related to work related precautions. • Equipment Operation
