NATURAL RESOURCES ENGINEER III
The Department of Building & Development, Natural Resources Division, is seeking candidates for a full-time, Natural Resources Engineer. This position works under the supervision of the Natural Resources Team Leader to review various Land Development Applications for compliance with and respond to inquiries regarding, the County’s ordinances, regulations, and standards regarding natural resources. Responsibilities include the use of soil-landscape relationships to systematically map and describe the way soils occur in the landscape; Identifying and acquiring appropriate spatial data layers necessary to create and maintain a digitally-based soils map; Determining and applying principles, practices, and methods toward plant species identification and the use of plants as indicators of soil type, ecological sites, and soil-site and topographic relationships; Conducting permit and plan review of Land Development Applications to ensure compliance with the Loudoun County Zoning Ordinances and the Facilities Standards Manual; responding to natural resources inquiries; communication and coordination with interdisciplinary staff; and preparing status reports and memos. This position is expected to participate in any director initiatives associated with the County’s natural resources such as those including developing and recommending draft revisions to the Facilities Standard Manual and County Ordinances, as well as identifying initiatives within their area of expertise.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from a four-year college or university accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technologies with coursework related to the assigned area; three (3) years of related professional engineering and construction management work experience with direct design as well as administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in natural resource issues and familiarity with construction plans is preferred. Be able to obtain a Virginia Certified Professional Soil Scientist Certification issued by the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation within 1 (one) year.
Hiring Range: $68,970.58- $94,834.54-Salary Commensurate with Experience
Experience with GIS software is preferred. Must be able to work in possibly adverse weather conditions and on varying types of terrain. This position is expected to attend some night and weekend meetings.
