Mechanic
Job Description:
The Prince George County Garage is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Mechanic. This is a specialized technical position performing operation, maintenance, diagnostics and repairs all on systems and equipment on emergency vehicles in addition to other automobiles, trucks and equipment. This position reports to the Fleet Manager.
General knowledge of the methods, tools and equipment used in the repair of light automotive passenger cars, trucks, emergency vehicles, construction and maintenance equipment; general knowledge and skill in the use and operation of shop tools and machinery; ability to diagnose the more common defects in the drivetrains, brakes, engine performance and other components of automotive equipment; ability to detect by inspection any worn or broken automotive parts; ability to adapt to available tools and repair parts to specific repair problems; ability to interpret and work from sketches, diagrams and installation and repair charts; ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately.
High school diploma or GED; five years of experience in the maintenance, repair, and computerized diagnosis of vehicles, trucks, emergency vehicles, small equipment and construction equipment at a journeyman technician rating, or an associate degree in automotive technology and three years of hands on experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must have a Class B commercial driver’s license within one year of employment. Possession of a valid class A Virginia State Inspector’s License. Refrigerant recovery and recycling certification and Forklift operator certification. EVT and ASE certifications preferred. May work beyond normal schedule; may be assigned routine scheduled coverage responsibilities under call-out policy.
