Lifeguard – Seasonal
Parks & Recreation Department. Seasonal position, no benefits. Preferred hiring range: $10.39 – $10.50 per hour. Westover Pool Complex is looking for a professional and outgoing person with a positive work attitude to join the Aquatics Staff. Lifeguards are responsible for supervising the safe use of the Complex, which includes an Olympic 50-meter pool, a junior Olympic 25-yard pool, and a climbing wall. Lifeguards are responsible for ensuring the general safety, health, discipline and enjoyment of the patrons. Lifeguards may be called upon to assist in the instruction of swim students or complete other duties at the facility. Afternoon through evening hours offered, with an average of 20-40 hours per week. Some weekend work is required.
Physical Requirements: This is medium work requiring exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 20 pounds of force frequently; position requires considerable physical activity including walking, lifting, reaching, stooping, pulling, grasping, balancing, climbing, kneeling, standing and crouching; worker is subject to inside and outside activities with no effective protection from weather changes; visual acuity is required to monitor pool activities and conduct of bathers; worker is subject to atmospheric conditions, job hazards and noise; work requires hearing sufficient to accurately perceive information at normal spoken word levels and vocal communications for expressing and exchanging ideas and commands by means of the spoken word.
Minimum Requirements: Applicants must be 16 years of age or older by date of hire. Possession of current Lifeguard, First Aid and CPR-PRO (or their equivalent) are required for consideration. Applicants may be required to pass a “water skills assessment” as part of the application process.
Successful applicants for this position will be subject to a criminal background check, credit check and substance abuse testing.
