Lifeguard II

Job Description:

This position, in the absence of the Seasonal Pool Manager, manages the facility and has all of the responsibilities designated for the manager on duty. This includes pool operations, staff supervision, customer service and pool maintenance. Supervision is exercised over Lifeguard I, Customer Service Attendants, Instructors and other temporary, seasonal positions. Performs responsible semi-skilled and routine protective service work in supervising the safe use of public swimming facilities by pool visitors and aids troubled bathers in emergencies; performs related duties as required. Reports to the Seasonal Pool Manager or a Parks and Recreation Operations Specialist.

Minimum Qualifications:
-Any combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job.
-Minimum of three (3) months of experience with Charlottesville Parks and Recreation in a Lifeguard I position OR minimum of six (6) months of lifeguarding experience at other facilities.
-Must possess a current American Red Cross Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR/AED certification, a recently expired certification within the past year, or a Provisional Lifeguarding Certificate. -Must be available to work varied shifts including weeknights, weekends and holidays.
-Must be 17 years or older by employment start date.

Special Requirements:
-Must pass periodic CPR audits
-Must complete training with Charlottesville Parks and Recreation to include but not limited to: in-service training, sexual harassment prevention training, water testing, chemical handling, cash handling, paperwork management and reporting.

Preferred Qualifications:
-Certification in Oxygen Administration and Preventing Disease Transmission and Waterpark Skills Module is preferred
