Information Systems Technician
Job Description:
Responsibilities:
• Serves as network administrator for Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) software and James City County’s (JCC) Local Area Network (LAN); assures network and its applications are available to users; resolves user problems as required; responds to a variety of inquiries related to LAN operation and computer programs; takes corrective action as necessary including problem analysis and coordinating repairs with either JCC Information Technology (IT) or VDSS and Virginia Department of Information Technology.
• Provides technical support for JCC’s LAN; provides end user support, troubleshooting and training for personal computer-based software; acts as first point of contact for repair services with JCC Information Technology.
• Serves as Security Officer for VDSS software; maintains training records, processes necessary forms for addition/removal of staff, creates accounts and grants access to staff for various computer programs; monitors access to assure compliance with VDSS security standards. Resets passwords to all VDSS systems as needed.
• Manages all computer and related equipment, including printers, laptops, projectors, IPads, fax machines, remote access devices and wireless connectivity devices; maintains Special Needs list. Provides technical support for all desktop and cell phones. Troubleshoot issues, work with Telecommunications to repair/replace phones as needed, coordinate moves of phones and orders new phones.
• Serves as administrator of Social Services pages published on JCC intranet; updates information, creates forms and pages and publishes new information on a regular basis; Department representative on the County Social Media Committee. Attend meetings, coordinate information and post to County’s Facebook and Twitter pages regularly.
• Provides primary or backup support for claims with Virginia Department of Taxation, Virginia State Police Criminal History Searches, Electronic Benefit Transfer cards and Accurint.
• Compiles statistical data as it relates to JCC’s caseload distribution based on VDSS workload measures.
Requirements:
• Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, supplemented by training in the operation of peripheral equipment, microcomputers, and local area networks.
• Must possess reliable transportation to work site(s).
