Job Summary
Work is performed under the direction of the Facility Operations Supervisor. Duties include ensuring the safety of facility patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies and assisting with aquatic programs and pool operations, opening and closing the building, customer service, part-time staff supervision, facility supervision, and lifeguarding.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Safeguards, monitors, and regulates conduct of pool patrons; enforces aquatic and facility policies, rules and regulation while maintaining current, industry-standard safety protocols
• Set-up of facility equipment needed to successfully hold programs and rentals; assists with scheduling conflicts, video projection, presentation set-up, and competition pool configuration
• Provides customer service to patrons, including handling customer conflict and complaints as necessary in a prompt, effective and courteous manner
• Assists in accident prevention planning/risk management through daily facility checks
• Responds to aquatic emergencies as main support team member and coordinates entrance procedures with rescue personnel; provides written report on all accidents and forwards to supervisor
• Maintains aquatic rescue/first aid equipment as needed
• Conducts swimming tests with children
• Compiles aquatic service statistics and records data daily
• Mentors less experienced staff throughout their shifts
• Attends and assists Lifeguard Supervisor with in-service training, additional staff training as necessary and staff recruiting
• Lifeguarding to provide required surveillance for each body of water
• Other duties as assigned
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education and experience
• High school diploma or GED
• Prior experience in lifeguarding
Licenses and Certifications
• American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification required
• American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification preferred
• Valid, Virginia driver’s license with the ability to meet/maintain Town insurability requirements
• May be required to obtain/maintain other certifications as deemed necessary
