Firefighter (Part-Time)

Job Description:

Do you want a part-time opportunity that will allow you to utilize your knowledge and skills related to fire suppression or emergency medical services? If so, consider applying to the City of Harrisonburg Fire Department’s (HFD) part-time Firefighter position!

HFD operates in a team environment with a mission to enhance the quality of life for the community by protecting their health, safety and welfare through fire suppression, emergency medical services, prevention, and public education.

The part-time Firefighter position (no benefits) has a preferred hiring range of $15.36 – $17.66 per hour.

Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for a Firefighter position:
• 18 years of age by date of hire;
• High School Diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience); and
• Valid Driver’s License.

Applicants must also meet at least one of the following criteria:
• Successful completion (both written test and physical agility test) of the Regional Firefighter Testing;
• Currently employed as a Career (full-time) Firefighter by one of the four local jurisdictions listed below; or
• Currently a Career (full-time) Firefighter with another fire agency.

The following certifications are required: Virginia Firefighter II, EMT, and Hazardous Materials Operations. VA-recognized equivalents will be accepted to meet these three certification requirements.
