Requires certification either as: National Registry Paramedic or Commonwealth of Virginia Paramedic certified, or as Commonwealth of Virginia EMT-Intermediate. Firefighter training is provided at time of hire/orientation. Being certified as a firefighter is not a requirement for hire.
Lateral transfers available for full-time Firefighter/Paramedic employed in a career fire department for a minimum of 12 months. Individuals who qualify will only be required to participate in orientation.
During training, new recruits will be on a 40-hour per week schedule. After initial training, will be placed on a 56-hour schedule. Typical starting pay at $47,698.56 annually ($16.38 an hour based on a 56-hour schedule) and once released as a provider:
Paramedic (National or Virginia) career development pay adds $11,939.20 to compensation.
EMT-Intermediate (Commonwealth of Virginia) career development pay adds $9,551.36 to compensation.
Minimum Requirements:
Requires certification either as: National Registry Paramedic or Commonwealth of Virginia Paramedic certified, or as Commonwealth of Virginia EMT-Intermediate.
High school diploma or GED equivalency required.
Requires American Heart Association Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support Provider.

Must agree to and sign a ‘no tobacco/smoking’ contract.
