This positions will assist Fire/Rescue with administration and enforcement of the Uniform Statewide Fire Prevention Code (SFPC), the Uniform Statewide Building Code (USBC) and to provide technical assistance, inspection, and fire protection plan review services to the Department of Building Inspection.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Five years of fire related experience as a fire protection system plans examiner, fire prevention inspector; or Associates Degree in fire protection or related field with 2 years of experience as a fire protection plans reviewer certified through the VA Department of Housing and Community Development, or NFPA 1031 fire inspector; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. NICET certification a plus. Completion of the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development’s Building Code Academy and the Inspector 1031 course through Department of Fire Programs is required within 18 months of employment, and completion of the Fire Protection Systems Inspection class and 3B – Fire Protection General certification examination along with the Fire Protection Plans Examiner class and 3C – Fire Protection Plan Review certification examination within 3 years of employment is required.
