This position is responsible for emergency service work responding to a variety of injuries, illnesses, fire prevention and fire suppression.
High School Diploma or equivalent
Possession at all times a valid, Virginia driver’s licenses with an acceptable driving record
Currently hold and maintain certification or equivalent in the following:
Basic Cardiac Life Support (Health Care Provider CPR)
EVOC Class III
Virginia Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B to Paramedic (EMT-P); Paramedic preferred
The following certifications are preferred, but are not required.
Virginia Department of Fire Programs Firefighter II*
Virginia Department of Fire Programs Hazardous Materials Operations*
ICS 100, 200, 700, 800*
*Special note- Special consideration is given to EMS providers without firefighter certifications. These candidates, if hired, would be provided this training during their employment with the City, but would NOT be required to obtain them.

Starting salary will depend on certification – FT range $34,171 – $41,859. Salary increases upon completion of required Firefighter II and Hazardous Materials Operations certifications.
