Fire/EMS Advanced – Paramedic

Job Description:

This position is responsible for emergency medical service work responding to a variety of injuries, illnesses, fire prevention and fire suppression.
Minimum Qualifications:
Nationally Registered or Virginia Advance to Paramedic certification, ICS 700, 100, 200 and 800, an approved emergency vehicle operators course level 2 and/or 3, ACLS, PALS and a valid Virginia Driver’s License.

Additional Qualifications preferred; Department of Fire Programs Firefighter I and/or II Haz Mat Operations.

*Special note- Special consideration is given to EMS providers without firefighter certifications. These candidates, if hired, would be provided this training during their employment with the City, but would NOT be required to obtain them.

Applications may be obtained on the City’s website, www.radfordva.gov and returned with resume to Human Resources, 10 Robertson Street, Radford, VA 24141. Deadline: open until filled. Starting salary will depend on certification – FT range $44,405 (Advanced) $47,500 (Intermediate)- $49,755 (Paramedic). The City offers an excellent benefit package that includes enrollment in VRS and 100% employer paid insurance for employee only coverage with no deductible, free life insurance, free LODA coverage in addition to paid time off for vacation (127.2 hours/year), sick time (127.2 hours/year) and holidays (120-132 hours/year). In addition to the accrued time off listed previously, once a FT new hire has completed the field training requirements an additional 48 hours of vacation time and sick time will be added to each bank of time. Education assistance available for EMS advanced classes and additional compensation for approved Fire/EMS certifications. Successful completion of background screening and pre-employment testing is a must. Applications should include copies of current EMS, Fire and EVOC certifications.
