The Finance Manager is responsible for providing specialized analytical support for the Financial Accounting, Accounts Payable, Payroll and Retirement divisions of the Finance
Department within the City of Newport News! Day to day, you can expect to oversee a wide range of data management, reporting, and complex projects! This is the perfect position for someone who is analytical and has a strong attention to detail!
The data analytics piece of this position will be configured using our Enterprise Resource Planning System (MUNIS). In addition to the system generated reports, you will also work closely with the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) team to overcome obstacles, provide coordination, guidance and recommendations for improvements. With these resources, you will be able to develop testing specifications and plans, prepare test data, perform tests, and analyze results to validate accuracy by adhering to standard testing procedures.
You will be the subject matter expert when it comes to regulations and making improvements to the department operations. This position will oversee a number of important projects, so you will need to be able to assist with developing project plans, setting objectives, and monitor the project status and progress, and ensures project goals and timelines are met. Communication skills and the ability to build interpersonal relationships will come in handy, as you will work closely with the various Finance divisions, and will work occasionally with internal departments. This position does have supervisory responsibilities over a team, and will be responsible for assigning work, performance management, and other general supervisory tasks.
