Job Description:
The Position
The Maryland Municipal League (MML or League) is seeking a leader to serve as Executive Director/CEO who will oversee the management of all programs and services for the MML, engage the membership, work with state and municipal leaders in Maryland, and help the Board of Directors achieve its strategic initiatives. The Executive Director/CEO will directly report to the Board of Directors and Executive Committee within the Board. The current Executive Director will be retiring after 26 years of leadership.
Qualifications
Minimum requirements include a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business/public administration or a closely related field and at least ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in an association or local government management or business and demonstrated leadership and management of staff.
Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree in business/public administration or a closely related field, experience serving a multi-cultural constituency, budget and financial oversight, demonstrated ability to build and maintain intergovernmental relationships, and the ability and desire to reach out and engage municipal leaders across the entire state.
Residency in the state of Maryland after appointment is required and would be tied to a relocation package. Travel, including overnight stays, is part of this position.
Compensation and Benefits
The expected hiring range is $200,000 – $220,000, depending on the qualifications of the successful candidate. The Maryland Municipal League offers a competitive benefits package including Medical, Dental, and Vision with 100% employer coverage for employees and eligible dependents. The League offers 12 paid holidays along with sick and annual leave. Life insurance and long-term health care programs for employees are provided at no cost to the employee, and the retirement plan is through Mission Square (formerly ICMA-RC). Employees are eligible to establish a Deferred Compensation Plan as well. Finally, employees are eligible for a mobile phone purchase/plan, a $5000 Discretionary Fund, and the use of the League’s provided vehicle.
