The County of Amelia is accepting applications for a full-time salaried position of Environmental Specialist. This position is responsible for administering the following programs: Erosion and Sediment Control; Stormwater Management; Biosolids; and Solid Waste Management (to include Maplewood Landfill operations). This position is responsible for issuing land disturbance permits for commercial and residential construction, inspecting sites for compliance with construction plans and environmental regulations, and issuing Notices to Comply or Stop Work Orders for alleged violations; providing technical assistance to citizens, developers, and contractors; monitoring biosolids land application sites; and responding to citizen complaints regarding enforcement of local environmental ordinances. Further duties include, but are not limited to, overseeing the County recycling program, litter control activities, and environmental education. The applicant must possess a valid Virginia driver’s license. DEQ certifications including Inspector for both Erosion and Sediment Control and Stormwater Management are required and DEQ certification for Dual Combined Administrator is highly desired. The hiring salary for this position is $45,000 to $60,000.
