The City of Manassas Engineering department is looking for a highly motivated, professional self-starter to enter the role of Engineering Technician. This position reports directly to the City Engineer and performs both technical and administrative functions within the Department. The selected individual will prepare and process plans, plats and various reports; respond to requests for technical information and general inquiries from various departments. Prepare design documents and exhibits using CADD on an as needed basis. Create, update and maintain maps, and enter information into databases. Perform inspections for E and S, bond release, MS-4 program support and excavation permits.
Operates a personal computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data, utilizing ESRI (Arc Map and Arc Catalog), AutoCAD, MS Access, and MS Excel, word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, Internet, e-mail, or other software; and operates general office equipment as necessary to complete essential functions.
Operates a vehicle and a variety of equipment such as a computer, printer, large format copier, blueprint machine, copier, calculator, telephone, two-way radio, fax machine, drafting tools, engineering scale, gauges, various hand tools, and other items required to complete essential functions.
Education: Associate’s degree in Engineering Graphics, Civil Engineering or closely related field.
Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience in engineering, drafting and/or surveying; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities for this position.
Licensing: Must possess and maintain a valid Virginia driver’s license. Will be required to attend DEQ training to obtain the Virginia DEQ Erosion and Sediment control inspector certification within one year of employment
