EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT DIRECTOR

Emergency Management Director – Performs responsible supervisory, administrative, and technical work planning for and coordinating the emergency management response and functions for the County.
An employee in this class plans, organizes and coordinates the emergency management activities, response to hazardous materials incidents, weather emergency response, or other disaster planning and response for the County. In addition, the employee serves as Fire Marshal. Work involves coordination with a wide variety of emergency service providers, state and federal agencies, County departments, local emergency support departments and agencies, and contracted EMS service providers; work includes planning, developing, implementing and maintaining a County-wide emergency response plan that addresses mitigation, response and recovery plans; coordinating and managing the emergency center during a disaster; and consulting with local agencies on effective planning. Work involves a broad scope of public contacts, a variety of technical and detailed knowledge, and considerable independent initiative and judgement. The employee is subject to hazards associated with fire investigation in extreme cold weather; exposure to various hazards such as high heat, chemicals, and in the proximity to moving mechanical parts, and electrical current. Employee is also exposed to atmospheric conditions and blood borne pathogens, is sometimes required to wear a respirator, and may be required to work in close quarters. Work is performed under general supervision of the County Manager and is evaluated through conferences, results of work, reports, and public feedback.
Bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, or planning, and five to seven years of experience in EMS, fire and/or emergency management, including administrative and program planning; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Certification requirements within the first 3 years of employment. Annual Salary Range $ 49,125 – 76,144.
