Electric Line Technician – First Class

Job Description:

The City of Manassas Electric Department is seeking an Electric Line Technician 1st Class, responsible to participate in the construction, operation, maintenance and repair of the city’s electrical distribution system.

Position is open until filled.

Essential Job Functions
The successful incumbent in this position must have extensive knowledge in rubber glove line maintenance and safety procedures, installation and wiring of all types of transformer banks, and knowledge of overhead and underground primary and secondary terminations. Ability to operate aerial bucket and digger derrick trucks, climb 45-foot wood poles, and work in confined spaces energized at 7200 volts.

Performs technical duties in maintenance of electrical equipment: Performs overhead and underground transformer maintenance and charge; tests and troubleshoots various underground and overhead electrical devices; and installs and repairs various conductors both overhead, underground, in, and around other energized conductors and devices.

Troubleshoots power issues: Analyzes trouble areas by reading circuit books; inspects substation breakers and relays; tests wires for faults or other damages; tests relays, breakers, transformers and switches; and makes necessary repairs to clear problem and restore service.

Teaches, trains and supervises apprentice linemen in all aspects of overhead and underground line construction including, safety procedures, rigging, transformer connections, equipment operation and maintenance; and carries out lead technician responsibilities including assigning and directing work, making recommendations in performance appraisal, and reporting problems to supervisors.

Performs emergency calls in all types of weather.

Minimum Required Qualifications
This position requires a high school diploma, successful completion of a recognized electrical journeyman lineman program, and at least 5 years of experience as a 1st Class Line Technician; a valid Class A commercial driver’s license with appropriate endorsements; and First Aid, CPR, AED, and confined space entry certifications.
