Division Chief Zoning (Zoning Administrator)

DESCRIPTION:
Under the Director of Community Development and Planning, serves as Zoning Administrator and Chief of the Zoning Division, supervising planners, technicians, and clerical staff.
Responsibilities include overseeing the permitting and plan review process for compliance with the Zoning Ordinance, ordinance text amendments, data collection and dissemination; serving as liaison to Boards and Commissions; preparation of reports and recommendations on Appeals, Variances, Special Exception applications and other planning related issues; interpretation and enforcement of Zoning Ordinance; coordination of site plan and subdivision review, including administration of bonding. Serves as Zoning Administrator. May serve as acting director in the absence of the director.
Position requires after-hours meeting attendance to provide briefings to Council, commissions, boards, and citizens groups.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture or related field.
Requires four years of senior level experience in urban planning, community development; or an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.
ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATION:
Master’s degree in urban planning, public administration, or related field; AICP Certification.
Certified Zoning Administrator (CZA) by the VA Association of Zoning Officials.
Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM).
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
Must possess a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
