Director of Public Works
Virginia Beach, (population 450,000) is a AAA rated, independent City established in 1963 by the merger of Princess Anne County and the City of Virginia Beach. The next Director will be expected to be a highly engaged leader working with the City Manager’s Office, City Council and the community on a wide range of current and emerging issues and projects. Preferred Candidate qualifications:
A Master’s degree in public administration, business administration, engineering or related field. A designation as a Project Management Professional is preferred.
Ten years increasingly responsible executive level experience preferably leading a large, complex local government public works operation.
Extensive knowledge of budgeting and finance, preferably in the municipal sector with the ability to identify areas for efficiency and collaboration, including a strong knowledge of capital project planning and alternative delivery.
Excellent at communicating effectively both orally and in writing, with the ability to listen as well as explain information and related plans and programs to policy makers and the public that is easily understood by all stakeholders.
The starting salary range is up to a maximum of. Residency in the City of Virginia Beach is preferred. The City offers a competitive benefit package.
