Director of Parks and Recreation
Job Description:
The City of Lynchburg is seeking a dynamic, collaborative, and innovative leader to serve as its next Director of Parks and Recreation. This position provides leadership, vision, direction, and managerial administrative oversight to the Parks and Recreation Department and employees accountable for the development, maintenance and operation of the City’s park system grounds, related facilities, structures, and the City Market. The Director is responsible for improving quality of life through preservation of open spaces and scenic environments, and the provision of leisure activities and services to residents and visitors of all ages. Work involves significant community engagement and public involvement with elected officials, other policy makers, and citizens. Serving as a member of the City’s senior management team, the Director collaborates with other City departments to ensure that the City’s mission and core values are incorporated into operational activities and services.
