Director of Fire and Emergency Medical Services
Job Description:
The Prince George County Department of Fire and EMS is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Director of Fire and Emergency Medical Services. This position will be responsible for planning, organizing and directing the operation of the Fire and EMS employees and Department Volunteers within the coordinated emergency response system. The Fire and EMS Director plans and organizes the overall role in the delivery of fire suppression, emergency medical services and other emergency services for the County within an integrated County system as provided by State law. The Director manages emergency planning for all man-made and natural disasters and coordinates disaster and hazardous materials responses.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to the department and extensive experience in fire, emergency services and/or emergency medical services, with a minimum of five (5) years in a leadership position in Fire & EMS.
Comprehensive knowledge of fire, EMS, emergency management and disaster planning management; extensive knowledge of laws and regulations controlling fire, EMS and emergency management; proven management and administrative skills; ability to lead, direct and manage the activities of volunteer and career personnel; ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with volunteers, career personnel, government officials and the public; ability to prepare technical and informative reports and present complex information to varied audiences; and, ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion in emergency situations.
Possession of an appropriate driver’s license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Must possess certifications for ALS, EMT – Intermediate or higher, (paramedic certification is preferred), Fire Officer II or higher, Fire Instructor II or higher, Hazmat Operations and EVOC 3 or higher. Executive Fire Officer (EFO) certification is preferred.
