Director of Finance & Accounting/Treasurer
Job Description:
The City of New Carrollton is looking for a highly qualified, dynamic, detail-oriented financial professional to lead our Accounting and Finance Department. This individual will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Finance Department including but not limited to budgeting, payroll, cash management, accounting, and financial reporting, debt management, procurement, and internal auditing. The ideal candidate should be a forward thinker and an expert in long-term financial planning. Individuals must be able to develop and maintain strong working relationships with department heads, Mayor and Council. Maintaining a flexible work schedule (days and evenings) to accommodate City Council meetings and deadlines is a must. Work is under the general direction of the City Administrative Officer.
Prior experience working in a local government environment is highly desired, but not required. The Director of Finance & Accounting must have a strong working knowledge of concepts, laws, principles, practices, and techniques of accounting, auditing, and financial programs including budgeting; comprehensive knowledge in budget preparation and administration. Experience utilizing AccuFund and/or Paycom is a plus.
A comprehensive benefits package is offered. Starting salary is $102,762; however, the salary commensurate with experience.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to graduation from an accredited institution of higher education with a Masters Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or Public Administration or related field and extensive experience in finance, accounting, budgeting, investments, or fiscal policy analysis or any related field. Experience in public or non-profit accounting preferred.
CGFM Certification (Association of Government Accountants) or Certified Public Finance Officer (Government Finance Officers Association) is strongly preferred.
