Director of Finance

Job Description:

The Town of South Boston, Virginia is seeking applications from highly qualified candidates to serve as the next Director of Finance to manage the Town’s financial resources and oversee the daily operations of the Town’s Finance Department. The Finance Director will work closely with and report to the Town Manager. The Finance Department has a staff of 3 full-time employees consisting of two cashiers and an Accounts Payable Specialist. The functions of the Finance Department include, but are not limited to, the collecting, accounting, and monthly and annual reporting of all funds received and expended; managing Town investments; accounts payable and accounts receivable functions; tax collection (including delinquent tax collection and other enforcement activities); and issuance of business licenses. Minimum qualifications for the position include a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting, finance, or related field. Preferred qualification includes a master’s degree in Public or Business Administration, and/or designation as a CPA. A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in public finance administration is highly desirable, with at least three (3) years of supervisory experience with a comparable or larger size unit of government or public agency.

The salary for the position is negotiable within the established range of $56,817 – $98,919 depending on the candidates experience and qualifications.
