Director of Community Development
Job Description:
Amherst County is seeking a visionary and inclusive planning professional to serve as Director of Community Development. The position directs and supervises the short and long range planning activities, services and programs of the County’s Community Development department including planning and zoning; building safety and inspections; and related boards and commissions. The position serves as the Zoning Administrator for the County and is responsible for the development of the County’s comprehensive plan and various master plans.
The competitive candidate will have a bachelor’s degree with coursework in planning or a related field and extensive experience with professional planning, building safety and zoning laws, geographic information systems, and municipal development and finance. Supervisory experience is required. Strong communication and customer service skills, a thorough knowledge of current developments in the field of planning, and the ability to bring together diverse community members and juggle multiple and conflicting priorities is key to success in the position.
The hiring range is $76,165 to $109,173, depending on qualifications and includes full County benefits. The position is open until filled.
