Development Services Coordinator #26046
The City of Virginia Beach Planning department is seeking a Development Services Coordinator that will ensure that the services delivered by the Development Services Center (DSC) staff are performed in a predictable, repeatable, timely, orderly, fair, consistent, reliable, flexible, and responsive manner. This position will be responsible for the effective coordination of development-related activities of many diverse city agencies and will comprehensively develop recommendations for viable development review programs and consistent development review policy. This position requires effective communication both orally and in writing with public, outside agencies, co-workers, and other City personnel providing accurate technical information and recommendations.
Requires any combination of education and experience above the high school level equivalent to twelve (12) years in fields such as urban planning, civil engineering, or a related field which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
The ideal candidate will have:
Excellent communication skills (oral, written, interpersonal)
Experience in division management
Bachelors degree in related field (eg Urban Design, Planning, Landscape Architecture, Civil /Environmental Engineering, Urban and Regional Studies, Architecture).
Previous experience in municipal government
In-depth understanding of the land development process (development processes, surety processes, permit processes, codes and standards, etc.)
Experience in implementing and administering policies, procedures, codes, and ordinances
Certifications related to applicants field of expertise (licensed landscape architect, AICP, PE).
