Deputy Zoning Administrator/Planner III
This professional level position is available IMMEDIATELY in the Department of Community Development and Planning
Under the direct supervision of the Zoning Administrator, this position serves as a Deputy Zoning Administrator and is responsible for administering the Zoning Ordinance through a wide range of senior level land use and development review activities, including review and analysis of site plans and permits, interpreting and advising on zoning regulations, coordinating zoning enforcement activities, and providing staff support to boards and commissions. This position operates in a fast-paced environment, interacting regularly and providing direct service to members of the public, property owners, business owners, and other professionals. Works independently to coordinate plan and permit reviews with other City agencies. Performs other duties as assigned.
A Bachelor’s degree in Planning or closely related field and four or more years of directly related experience in professional planning/zoning administration. Applicants must have a demonstrated understanding of Virginia law, as it relates to zoning administration and enforcement, and considerable knowledge and experience in the land use and development process. Applicants must possess excellent analytical and communication skills, excel in providing superior customer service to residents, business owners, and development industry professionals, and have strong time management and organizational capabilities. Supervisory experience is a plus. Valid driver’s license with good driving record is required. A Master’s degree and AICP certification are preferred.
HOURS: Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Occasional evening meetings required.
