Deputy Director of Transportation & Transit
The City of Alexandria, located in northern Virginia and bordered by the District of Columbia (Potomac River), invites qualified candidates to apply for our Deputy Director of Transportation & Transit position.
The Department of Transportation and Environmental Services (T&ES) Deputy Director for Transportation and Transit Services performs highly responsible managerial and professional work assisting in the management of the Department. The incumbent serves as the chief technical advisor for the City in issues regarding traffic engineering, providing support to the Director and staff of T&ES, City Manager and other City departments. The incumbent will also be responsible for planning/deployment of the City’s advanced transportation system program and parking management. Considerable independent judgment and discretion is used in carrying out daily operations.A person in this position will also oversee development and implementation of neighborhood traffic safety and transit/non-motorized capital projects, provide leadership for the planning and implementation of new, high-capacity transit systems (primarily bus rapid transit) within the City.

•Oversees all functions of divisions within a large municipal transportation Department; consults with and provides direction to subordinate managers regarding activities and operations of their functional areas; ensures the enforcement of all applicable laws, ordinances and regulations.
•Directs the development and implementation of division/department goals, strategic plans, policies, procedures and work standards for assigned area of responsibility; assists in the development, preparation and modification of short-range and long-range Department plans, programs and strategies.
•Monitors the organizational structure, service levels and administrative systems required to accomplish the mission of the Department in an effective and efficient manner; directs the identification and analysis of opportunities for service enhancements
