The Circuit Court Clerk’s Office within the City of Waynesboro has an opening for a versatile individual to perform operational responsibilities as a Deputy Clerk within the Clerk’s Office. This position is responsible for managing a large volume of information, into various automated systems. The desired candidate will be an energetic individual with an above average attention to detail. Daily duties will involve detailed clerical work in a fast-paced environment with frequent, statutory deadlines. The Deputy Clerk in this position will be responsible for case processing to include data entry into an automated case management system, preparing court orders, and timely distribution of case information to outside agencies. Additional duties include but are not limited to: scanning and indexing case papers; filing and locating court documents; preparing various legal documents; assessing and receipting payments for court costs; preparing correspondence and assisting in scheduling dockets; retrieving, opening and processing mail; and any additional duties that may be assigned by the Clerk. The Deputy Clerk will be required to interact in a courteous and professional manner with staff, employees of other state agencies and local governments, law enforcement and court professionals, and above all must have a sincere desire to assist the public on a continual basis – via telephone, email, and in person, in a courteous and efficient manner. Ideal candidates must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to independently manage competing priorities, and a cooperative mindset to assist existing staff as needed. Candidates for this position must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite software and modern office practices. High school diploma or equivalent is required. Knowledge of court and judicial system is preferred. Applicants considered for employment must pass a pre-employment drug screen and will be subject to a credit and criminal background check in order to be considered for employment. Some travel will be required for initial training as well as continued education opportunities, usually within a 90 mile radius. Overnight stay may be required in some instances.
