The County of Prince Edward, Virginia, is seeking to hire a County Attorney to be the principal legal advisor to the Board of Supervisors and County Administration. This is a part-time position that supervises the legal affairs of the County and requires a highly skilled and motivated Virginia-licensed attorney and graduate of an accredited law school with a minimum of two years as a practicing attorney. Experience as a local government attorney is preferred, but not required. Admission to practice in federal courts a plus. Familiarity with general civil litigation is necessary. The County Attorney advises County Officials and represents the County in a wide range of legal matters, particularly those dealing with contract issues; construction law; land use, subdivision and zoning issues; real estate; animal control; eminent domain; debt collection; basic employment law; parliamentary procedure and all other areas of local government law. Attendance is required at all Board meetings and at Planning Commission or other meetings, as requested. Fee structure negotiable based on education and experience.
